Clearing Clutter Out Of A Forgotten Area In Your Home

Ok, ladies and gentleman….. It is finally time to address an area of your home that is notorious for storing a lot of unused items.  It is time to address the closets in your guest bedrooms.

A few weeks ago, I decided to move my primary focus to cleaning out all of the closets throughout my house.  A lot of us only focus on the closets in our own bedrooms.  I think this is a mistake, because there is so much forgotten stuff lingering in spaces that don’t get much traffic.  Before I ever had children, I was really bad about using the closets in my guest bedrooms as additional storage.  These were rooms that I rarely ever entered, therefore, clutter built steadily over the years.  When we moved into our new home, and I was pregnant with Madeline, I instantly again filled up those guest room closets.  Now that I am in total purge mode, I decided to take a hard look at what was in the closets of rooms that I don’t visit frequently.   I still can’t believe what I found:

I actually found clothes WITH TAGS ON THEM!!  I have no idea when I purchased the above shirt, but there it was, sitting in my closet with tags.  Since I had never worn it, I decided to put it in my donate bag and help it find a home.  I strongly suggest that you take a good hard look at the items in your closet, and determine if you will actually ever wear the piece of clothing.  If you have to think about it for more than five seconds, I feel that you probably need to donate it.  There are so many people who could be using the outfit in question, and it will help you declutter your house.

I also found this during my guest closet purge:

This is a dress that I purchased from Vineyard Vines during one of their sales years ago.  It never fit, so it was also BRAND NEW WITH TAGS.  I don’t exactly remember when I purchased this, but it has been at least five years.  I had let at least ten friends try on this dress, in hopes that I could give it to one of them.  It was cut very strangely, and I had yet to find a single person who could wear it.  I kept it because it was such a nice dress, and I really thought I could give it to somebody.  Since this never happened, I finally decided to put it in my donate pile.

I was also able to clear out a lot of work clothes that either do not fit me or are no longer my style.  I am no longer in my twenties, so I definitely don’t need anything that is too “youthful” looking at this point in my life.  ðŸ™‚  The below dress was pretty, but was not very flattering.

All in all, I was able to clear out 11 bags of clothes in about two hours (is that not RIDICULOUS??? LOL!).  Although it did take a bit of time, it was TOTALLY worth it in the end!  I have so much more room in my home, and my unused items are going to other homes where they will be loved.  ðŸ™‚  I strongly encourage you to go through those guest room closets in the next few weeks, because it will free up space and make your home feel bigger!

Happy Cleaning,
