Entryway Progress…..

We are still desperately wanting a new front door, but we have been able to complete all of our other wish list items.  When we first purchased our home, there was every type of floor imaginable.  The entryway had a little bit of hardwood, followed by laminate, carpet and tile.  My sweet husband actually moved into our home a little bit before I moved in and spent a long time removing every bit of flooring in our house, with the exception of the carpet in the bedrooms.   We wanted one type of hardwoods going throughout the house to make the rooms flow together better.  The color was dark and unwelcoming, and the floor boards were small and a dated brown color.  I loved the stairway the first time I saw it (I immediately imagined beautiful garland wrapped around it for Christmas), but I didn’t love the color.  We knew with a few cans of paint and a lot of effort, we could make this into something special.  Here is a pic of the entryway before:

Notice that there wasn’t any crown molding at all in the entryway, and there wasn’t casing in the opening to the living room.  You can see how the wooden floor butted up against carpet going up the staircase.  The doors were also brown, which wasn’t our taste.  I love crisp white trim and molding, so I knew that this could be a somewhat easy fix.  Here is another view into the entryway:

This is a better view of how there wasn’t any casing in the door opening into the living room.  The baseboards were also fairly small, so we knew that we wanted to completely replace those, instead of just painting them.  With a lot of new paint, flooring, casing, baseboards and molding, here is the new product:

Out of everything, the staircase by far took up the most time.  We had to put on about three or four coats of paint, but the work was most definitely worth it!

Renovation Materials Information:

Floors:  Walnut – purchased and installed at Floor & Decor

Wall Paint: Baja Dunes – Benjamin Moore

Casing, Molding and Floor Boards:  Lowe’s

  • I will do a separate post on the specifics for the materials at a later date 🙂

White Trim Paint:  Color matched at Ace Hardware to match our future kitchen cabinets (cabinets are “French Vanilla”)

These changes most definitely took a lot of work, but we are very happy with the results! 🙂
