If You Don’t Have Time For A ScrapBook, Make A Memory Box Instead!

A lot of people have a ton of good intentions from the beginning.  They plan on making all kinds of beautiful scrapbooks and photo albums for their future little bundle, but like anything, time can get away from us.  Many people don’t want to start something until the circumstances are 100% ready, and to be honest, that probably won’t ever happen.  As time drifts by, all of those little trinkets and pictures that you could be storing are actually collecting dust on a table and will eventually end up in a drawer somewhere (or worse – accidentally thrown away).  Instead of letting that happen, start small by making a basic memory box.  I am not talking about anything super fancy (but if you are into that, then that is awesome too).  🙂  You can just have any sort of basic box that is easy to locate where you store important items from you child’s life.  It is very important to keep the box in a very accessible location, so you can immediately put your items into it (so they don’t get lost).  Here are some things that I have kept for Madeline, and I plan on giving them to her when she is older:

Her baby footprints from the hospital –

I took two pieces of cardstock to the hospital when I was pregnant with Madeline.  I asked the nurses to make extra sets of footprints when they did her birth certificate for me to keep.  I actually plan on framing these some day, but I want to wait until we have all of our children and have them in one frame.  I had them do two in case one ever got messed up – yes, I am that much of a planner.  Aren’t her little feet PRECIOUS?!?

For now, her little footprints will stay stored in my memory box until I am ready to use them.  This way, I know exactly where they are.

Her first gift tags from Santa –

I kept Madeline a few tags from her first Christmas.  The big tag (which was given to her from Santa 🙂 ) was attached to her bunny rocking chair.  I thought this was really cool to keep because it isn’t something you see everyday in most baby books.

Her place card from her first Thanksgiving –

This was actually from my mother’s home on Thanksgiving.  She typically does place cards, and she had one sitting out for all of the children. I thought this would be fun to keep to remember her first big Turkey Day!  🙂

Her first voter registration sticker (LOL) –

Madeline happened to be born during an election year, so the voting registration people actually gave this to her after I voted.  🙂

Even if you child is a little older, start collecting things for them that they will appreciate in the future.  It would be a great thing to give to them at a graduation or their wedding as a way to remember their childhood.

What things do you keep for your children?  Please let me know because I always love hearing from you guys!  Thanks again, and have a great week!

So many good ideas! My children are grown but you have given me great ideas if/when we are blessed with grandchildren. You were so smart to have cardstock at the hospital when Madeline was born. These examples are treasures that she will cherish.
Your writing is interesting and easy to read. Pictures a such a bonus! Thanks for sharing!
