5 Important Items To Always Have In Your Diaper Bag

One important thing I have learned over the past year is to always be ready and have your diaper bag stocked AT ALL TIMES!!!  You never know when you unexpectedly have to run, so make sure you are always ready!  Go ahead and have your diaper bag stocked the night before you leave.  If you want bonus points, go ahead and put your bag by the door.  This will make your morning so much easier!  Before I go to bed each night, I try to take a quick bag inventory of everything important.

These items currently include:

Snacks I always keep a little baggie of Puffs, Goldfish, etc… in my bag.  I have found this to be super helpful when you are in a restaurant and your food hasn’t come out yet.  Babies are not known for being patient, so this will buy you some time before their actual food comes.

Sippy Cup – I try to always have a sippy cup with me, so I can give Madeline water whenever she is thirsty.  I recommend having a sippy cup that is fully dedicated to your diaper bag, so you don’t accidentally forget it.  In the early days, we were bad about “borrowing” an item from my diaper bag and not putting it back.  Make your life much easier, and have an extra one that is dedicated as a travel cup.  As soon as your take it out to wash, immediately replace it with a clean one.  I am not suggesting having twenty sippy cups, but it is definitely nice to have a few extras.

Madeline also likes to take a sippy cup with her on road trips….. 🙂

Diapers & Wipes – This one is obvious.  🙂

A Bib – Now that Madeline is older, we use a silicone bib with a shelf on the bottom to catch food.  I received this one as a gift, and I have found it to be very useful at restaurants.  Once your little munchkin is finished eating, you can quickly wash and dry it in the sink, where it isn’t making a mess in your bag.  Perfect!

Table Toppers – I also received these table toppers as a gift, and I really like them!  I especially loved them when she was a baby, because she had a reputation of throwing plates.  LOL!!!

I obviously didn’t want her doing this at a restaurant (or ever), so I used these table toppers as a clean space for eating.

They are super easy to put down, and they make a fun table setting for the princess!

My bag contains other stuff too, but above are the main items that I make sure are always in there.  As soon as I identify a missing item, I immediately go ahead and put it back in my bag.  I have found that if I put it off for later, it will never get done.  Something else will come up to distract me, and the item will soon be forgotten.  Not immediately replacing the item will almost guarantee (Murphy’s Law) that you will need it the very next day.  If you go ahead and have your bag packed and ready to go, then you aren’t rushing around in the morning.  This adds a ton of stress to your life that you really don’t need!  You definitely want one less thing to worry about when you are also trying to hold a child in your arms.  Do yourself a favor, and go check your bag right now.  Your “tomorrow self” will thank you!  :o)
