Madeline’s Pink Pumpkin Tutorial

Lord knows that I love to decorate for a holiday, so I wanted to add a little Halloween fun to Madeline’s nursery.  I didn’t want to do too much since she is still a baby, so I thought it would be fun to add a simple pink pumpkin to her room.  It was super easy and inexpensive to make, and it made a great prop for pictures!  🙂

We first went to a local pumpkin patch and purchased a large pumpkin (click HERE to learn more about our adventure).  It was under $5.00 and had a lovely shape to it.  I tore a trash bag for my work station (also known as the breakfast room 🙂 ) and used some paint that I had leftover from one of our home renovation projects.  The gold for the stem is Martha Stewart metallic paint in Vintage Gold,” and the pink paint is “Angelic” from Sherwin Williams.  This is actually the color of my office downstairs, so it was a great way to use some of the leftover paint (remember – use what you have, BEFORE you buy new!!!).  I love to decorate, but it is even better when I can complete a project inexpensively!  🙂

I painted the gold first, let it dry, and then went on to the pink.  The gold took two coats, and the pink took about three.  It dried really quickly, so the whole project only took about an hour.  You can see my little muffin in the background looking outside (which was one of her favorite activities).  I kept a window open, but luckily there weren’t really any fumes!

As soon as the paint was dry, I put it upstairs in Madeline’s room.   It matched everything perfectly – hooray!  She was quite intrigued (as you can see from the picture below) with her new pumpkin, and it was a great prop for photos!

I think she liked it!!!  🙂

I really wanted to try and paint her monogram on it, but that didn’t happen this year.  I will most likely do another one next year, so this might be something that I try.  It lasted throughout the whole month of October, and it made a fun seasonal “happy” for her room.  If you decide to make one of these for your children, please don’t forget to remove the pumpkin after Halloween, because you don’t want it to start rotting in their bedroom – LOL!  🙂

Happy decorating!!
